Operation Humpback Help
Although Japan recently decided to halt the killing of 50 humpback whales in Southern Hemisphere waters, the Japanese government is indicating that this reprieve is only for a year or two. Your support in “Operation Humpback Help” is just as vital as ever to keep International pressure on Japan to make this decision permanent. Here is how you can help!
Attention schools, clubs, scouts, environmental groups, and anyone interested in saving humpback whales. Join “Operation Humpback Help” to protest the recent decision by Japan to kill 50 humpbacks whales in Southern Hemisphere waters as part of their commercial whaling activities for the 2007/2008 season. Operation Humpback Help is a student campaign initiated by the Tower School in Marblehead, MA that combines Japanese origami with student messages from around the world.
Tower School students are asking other concerned kids to help send a colorful and important message to Japan through their works of art. Students are asked to create strings of 50 origami whales that have short messages written on each animal. Students can display their beautiful work in their classrooms or in any location within their community. Between May 1 and May 15 of 2008, these students will be asked to send their origami whales to WhaleNet so they can be taken to Chili and displayed at the IWC (International Whaling Commission) this summer.
